One of the most profound and influential book I have ever read. Every chapter is like ripping my soul from my body and exposing my nakedness.
The brilliant comparison of the greatest minds of human race who actually understood human race is mind boggling.
I was so happy and yet so sad at the same time when I read it. Happy , because I was learning something so important to understand oneself, a true unbiased mirror. Sad because the person in the mirror is not pretty.
sad also because ,now I cannot look at people the same way. Humanity has lost its respect.. Whatever left of it.
Humbled by the existence of such humans who could think to such levels and envious because I know I cannot have what they had.
I don't know how much I will remember , how much I will implement, will it make me more morbid, snappy or void.
I know I will not be the same again for some time.
It has made me more hungry to read , more hungry to know more, more determined to understand, and more frustrated in relation to people.
The explanation that we are death oriented and not sex oriented is very convincing.
It can lead to so many discussions.
Like , all our super heroes , gods , Demi gods, what is the common trait. What is it that makes them admirable?THEY CANNOT DIE. Immortality is the life long dream of everyone . Pun intended.
Why we admire super heroes, adrenaline junkies, dare Devils. Why do people do that? To see how close they can get to dying and escape it.
Our greed, want for monuments, fame etc, are driven by the thought of living on and our name survives even after we are gone, our small fetish to immortality.
Even our drive to have kids sometimes is just so that our DNA survives after us.
This book is a true eye opener and a text worth studying.
